Boxing enthusiast David Clarkson knows all about tough performers – which is why his business runs a fleet of Mercedes-Benz trucks.
Sheffield-based DBL Logistics, has just taken delivery of two Actros 2544 tractor units and three 18-tonne Axor 1824s, all with high-roofed sleeper cabs and Aire Truck Bodies curtainsiders.
Supplied by Northside Truck & Van, Sheffield, they are the subject of five-year contract hire deals with Mercedes-Benz CharterWay, the manufacturer’s financial services division.
They join an all-Mercedes line-up of nine trucks, and a Sprinter van used for small local deliveries.
The rigids are used for collection and delivery of consignments of palletised goods throughout the Sheffield area – DBL is a member of the United Pallet Network – while the Actros trunks nightly to the UPN hub in Melton Mowbray.
DBL was formed in 1983 by Bert Clarkson; his son David took the helm in 1998 but Bert still plays a key role as Operations Manager.
“We’ve been running Mercedes vehicles for many years now and they’ve proved reliable and extremely cost-effective,” says David Clarkson.
“The service from Northside is excellent too – we have a very good working relationship with sales executive Carl Belch and the service department team.”
He continues: “This is the first time we’ve contract hired our vehicles through CharterWay, but we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the competitive rates on offer.”
DBL sponsors Sheffield-based heavyweight boxer, Dave Howe, who recently signed a deal with top promoter Frank Maloney.
“I met David at the gym where I train, and was immediately impressed with his dedication to the sport,” says Mr Clarkson.
“It also gives me a buzz to see the DBL Logistics name on his robes and shorts, and his corner-men’s shirts, when he fights.”
