Fleet Right‑Sizing Checklist

A quick way to see whether your vans truly match the work you’re asking them to do

Fleet Buyers Guide

Mercedes-Benz Electric Van

1. Route Fit

Check each route against your current van allocation:

- Are most routes **urban, short, or stopstart

- Do any routes consistently fall under 100–120 miles

- Are larger vans being used where compact or midsize would be more efficient

If yes: You may be running oversized vans on undersized routes.

2. Load Fit

Look at realworld payload and volume:

- Are vans regularly running at less than 60% load

- Are there any overloading alerts on midsize vans

- Are bulky-but-light items taking up space in vans that are too big for the environment

If yes: You may have a payload or volume mismatch.

3. Powertrain Fit

Match powertrain to route type:

- Are short, predictable routes still running on diesel

- Do you have routes that return to the same depot daily

- Are you paying CAZ/ULEZ charges that electric vans could avoid

If yes: Some routes may be ideal for electric.

4. Access & Environment Fit

Consider where your vans actually operate

- Do drivers struggle with tight streets, height limits or parking

- Are large vans slowing down drop times in city centres

- Would a smaller footprint improve efficiency and reduce stress

If yes: A Citan or Vito may be a better fit than a Sprinter.

5. Cost Fit

Review the numbers:

- Are fuel or energy costs rising faster than mileage

- Are certain vans consistently more expensive to run

- Are you paying for capacity you don’t use

If yes: Your fleet mix may not match your duty cycles.

Quick Score

Give each section a score from 1–5 (1 = poor fit, 5 = perfect fit).

- 22–25: Strong rightsizing

- 15–21: Some optimisation opportunities

- 14 or below: High likelihood of vehicle mismatch
