28th January is International Lego Day, celebrated in mini block form around the world. (Why the 28th January? Because that’s the day that Danish resident Godtfred Kirk Christiansen first submitted his patent for the first Lego brick back in 1958). So on this day, people around the world take set aside some time to appreciate the building blocks loved by kids and adults alike.
How did Northside Truck & Van celebrate? By getting two of our employees to build a couple of Mercedes-Benz trucks – how else?
Lego Technics, a more technically difficult strain of the Lego series, released an officially licenced Mercedes-Benz Arocs in 2015. Sadly, this magnificent set is retired by Lego and no longer available for purchase, but we managed to find one online, and raided our Leeds depot for one we’d heard was locked away somewhere. So, with two full Arocs to build, we picked up two Lego fans to trap in a room and race to completion.
The race was simple: Rhys, a parts professional. Working tirelessly in the parts department in our Doncaster depot, he’s an expert at reading diagrams and finding bits and pieces from aisles and aisles of stock, ready to hand over to customers in need. He would be up against Jack, an apprentice technician entering his third year in the workshop, a man familiar with strenuous builds and technical drawings across the Mercedes-Benz range. Would the perfect parts picker topple the techie trainee?
