Mercedes-Benz vans ease the pressure for PWS
Yorkshire-based cleaning equipment supplier PWS says sub-standard back-up for its vehicle fleet just won’t wash – which explains why its service fitters all drive Mercedes-Benz vans.
“As a total package, the Mercedes-Benz offering is unbeatable,” declared Director Andy Brooke. “Its vans have proved to be superbly reliable but what really swings it for us is the aftersales support we receive from the manufacturer and our local Dealer, Northside Truck & Van.”
PWS is a pressure washer supply and service specialist. The latest addition to its fleet is a Vito 114 CDI Long, which is powered by an advanced 136 hp engine that drives the rear wheels – other variants of the mid-sized Vito are available with front-wheel drive.
The new arrival has lined up alongside the company’s four other Vito vans, as well as a smaller Citan and a larger Sprinter, while co-Director Jason Ripley’s ‘company car’ is a stylish Vito Sport 119 CDI crew van, which has a second row of seats and a muscular 190 hp engine.
The Vito vans are allocated to fitters who spend much of their time servicing car and commercial vehicle washing equipment for fleet operators, and national companies who run valeting bays on behalf of franchised dealerships.
PWS also runs an equipment rental service and sells equipment online and from its showroom in Elland, near Halifax. The company is also an agent for leading pressure washer manufacturer Kärcher.
All Mercedes-Benz vans come with a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty, and Mr Brooke cites this as a prime example of the manufacturer’s superior aftersales support. “Other vans also come with three years’ cover, but it tends to be limited to around 100,000 miles,” he explained.
“That’s no good to us, as we expect our vans to rack up 275,000 miles in that time. While we certainly don’t expect them to break down, the fact that the Mercedes-Benz warranty has no mileage limit is very reassuring.”
Mercedes-Benz vans also come with MobiloVan cover, which includes free, emergency breakdown assistance, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Incidents are attended by dedicated, factory-trained technicians who fit only Mercedes-Benz GenuineParts.
“MobiloVan also gives us great peace of mind,” continued Andy Brooke. “Again, we don’t anticipate having to use it. But it’s great to know that if one of our vehicles was to break down a technician would be at the scene within the hour, and in all but the most serious of cases would be able to fix the van there and then at the roadside, before sending our driver on his way.”
As it has done previously, PWS took advantage of competitive funding from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services to acquire its new Vito, and has fixed its maintenance costs for the period by signing-up to a ServiceCare plan.
“Sales executive James Hart put together a very cost-effective package which covers all our needs and ensures we’ll have no unexpected bills to pay,” said Mr Brooke.
Northside’s out-of-hours servicing capability is also key to the appeal of the three-pointed star – the workshops at every one of the Dealer’s seven locations across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire remain open for business through the night.
“That’s a huge advantage,” enthused Mr Brooke. “It means our fitters can drop their vehicles off at the end of the working day, usually at Northside’s Bradford or Leeds branch, then pick them up the following morning ready to go again. By keeping vehicle downtime to an absolute minimum, Northside plays an important part in keeping our business moving.”
He added: “We rely on our fleet to deliver on our promise of reliable, timely customer service. Experience has proved that Mercedes-Benz vans will not let us down.”
