Water safety specialist brings more Mercedes-Benz vans on stream
Legionnaires’ disease hit the UK headlines in 1985, when an outbreak in Stafford claimed 27 lives. It remains an ever-present threat, though, and the Mercedes-Benz vans operated by Managed Water Services are in the forefront of the battle to combat this lethal form of pneumonia.
The company applies a holistic approach to water management. It provides expert support in the fields of water treatment, water hygiene and control of the waterborne Legionella bacteria – the source of the Stafford infection was traced to an air-conditioning cooling tower on the roof of the local hospital.
Established in 2005, and with bases in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and Black Notley, Essex, Managed Water Services runs an all-Mercedes-Benz fleet of seven vans, which combine impressive reliability with outstanding economy, safety and driver comfort, and come with industry-leading aftersales back-up.
The latest arrivals from Northside Truck & Van, the manufacturer’s representative in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, are a Citan Sport 111 CDI and a pair of Long-bodied Vito 114 CDIs. All are the subject of contract hire agreements with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services – the Vito models replaced previous-generation versions, which the Dealer took back in part-exchange.
The new vans have lined up alongside Managed Water Services’ three other Citans – two of which are also dynamic Sport variants – and a third Vito. The Citans are assigned to technicians responsible for fulfilling service contracts, the Vito vans to engineers who install legionella control equipment and provide on-site monitoring services.
The Citan is the smallest van ever to wear a three-pointed star – the 111 CDI offers 110 hp and is capable of returning 61.4 mpg on the combined cycle. The Long-bodied Citan Sport features a number of visual enhancements, including colour-coded bumpers and door mirrors, daytime driving lights, a chrome front-grille, sidebars and tailgate trim, and 16-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels. Customers also ride in air-conditioned comfort, and get a leather-trimmed steering wheel, Sports mats and badging.
The Vito 114 CDI, meanwhile, is powered by an advanced, 2.1-litre engine that produces 140 hp and drives the rear wheels; other versions of the Vito are available with front-wheel drive. For driver comfort, Managed Water Services also specifies its larger vans with optional air-conditioning.
Director Ben Szyczak explained: “We’ve run vehicles by other manufacturers in the past but bought our first Mercedes-Benz 11 years ago, and these days every one of our vans has a three-pointed star on the front.
“The Citan and Vito are perfectly sized for our technicians and engineers, and have proved reliable and cost-effective to run. The lads love them, of course. They’ll each cover up to 40,000 miles a year, so we like to send them out in vehicles which lead the field in terms of safety, while also being exceptionally comfortable and well appointed.
“The vans look great in our branding, too. Our use of premium-quality Mercedes-Benz vehicles can only help to reassure established and prospective customers that they’re dealing with a highly professional company, one that offers the expertise and innovation they can rely on to identify and manage their risk, and ensure compliance with legislation.”
Mr Szyczak was also quick to praise the “fantastic service” that Managed Water Services receives from Northside Truck & Van. “The Dealer has been very attentive in its support of our business as we’ve grown,” he continued.
“Sales Executive James Hart is customer-focused and can always be relied upon to help – he provided us with a loan vehicle a little while back, which was greatly appreciated, and when we had a bigger job on the go more recently we used the opportunity to test drive a Sprinter.
“The service intervals on our Mercedes-Benz vans are also a lot longer than those of most competitors, while the manufacturer’s warranty and 24-hour roadside assistance scheme gives us great peace of mind. I can only recall one occasion when we had to call them out – it wasn’t anything major, but a technician was at the scene very quickly and had the Vito on its way again in no time.”
Mercedes-Benz Vans is committed to ‘Keeping businesses moving’. Its three-year warranty has no mileage limit, while the round-the-clock emergency MobiloVan cover is completely free of charge to customers.
